Once Upon A Time

Jim* was out of a job – This was the third time in 5 years….

Monday morning he is sipping his latte in the local Starbucks… his finances are not wonderful and he is rather fed up….

He is surfing the web….

He always liked the idea of the fast-food and fun-food business and the great profit margins… However, at the moment, he certainly can’t afford a popcorn or candyfloss machine…Then he sees an advert… He starts thinking… Rather than spend money on machines….

He phones his uncle and borrows £99 – He buys a 5-pack of ready made popcorn (£99 inc 500 free popcorn cones and free delivery) – he goes to his local car-boot sale that Saturday morning.

He fills 500 cones with the ready made popcorn (it costs him 20p each) and sells them to ‘the hungry masses’ at £1. By 2 o’clock, he is sold out…

Guess where he goes on Sunday? Nowhere – He stays at home. Because he has no more popcorn to sell.

I continue to be surprised how so many of our candy floss vendors continue to think only of outdoor events like fairs and car-boot sales. Certainly, there is massive money to be made there and for most of our dealers, these type of events are their ‘bread and butter’.

However, remember that there are thousands of events where you could be supplying different coloured candy floss.

And remember that candy floss can be put in containers (we sell them) and supplied for exhibitions, promotions and much more. By the way, before someone ‘shoots me down’ for saying that candy floss has to be in colour, let me stress, LET ME YELL! – that white candyfloss is beautiful. And so easy to make.

Simply use plain candy floss sugar (or as our colleagues abroad often call it: ‘cotton candy sugar’) in your candy floss machine (they call it cotton candy machine in the US) and your candy floss really will be fine – Candy floss in plain white, can look stunning in its simplicity. Picture the white wedding – and white candy floss! – It looks great.

Why am I rambling on about colour? Surely candy floss is basically pink? What I am trying to get across to you is that is serious money to be made by supplying candy floss to events and charging far more? How? by supplying it in colours.

And remember, you can mix two different colours (by that I mean two separate colours in a container, bag or on a stick/cone. Why not supply the colours of your local football team?

Supplying it in containers to local shops. (we sell a full range of candy floss extras (cotton candy supplies) – as well as colours (Flossine), we also supply sticks, cones and candy-floss bags.

Let me give you some examples. Colour-co-ordinated / colour-themed. catered functions are all the craze.

Mauve candy floss? why not? We recently heard of a ‘green’ charity that were launching a new fund-raising drive – one of our vendors was on site to make delightfully looking green candy floss.

Candy Floss Green Apple Martini

Candy floss and a martini? Most funfood traders forget how versatile candyfloss is – it is not just putting on the end of a stick at a fairground.

Like most adults, the unique taste of candy floss takes us back to that happy-go-lucky time of life when we had no idea how complicated being a grownup would be. Candy floss has just that power, and when combined with some alcohol? Even better!

One of our customers regularly delivers different coloured candy floss in plastic containers to a cocktail bar chain.

We begged for the recipe of the Wonderful Green Martini!

Here we go:

Two ounces of Sparkling Cider (not too dry)
½ ounce apple – must be a ‘Granny Smith’ – finely chopped
2 ounces of Seven Up or Sprite
2 dashes of cinnamon
1 ball green apple candy floss
(we sell ‘Green Apple’ Flossine Sugar Flavour/Colour)
½ cup crushed ice

ENHANCEMENT:
Chill martini glasses and sugar the rim.
Try it with gin instead of vodka – it rocks! (or you may hate it

OK – HERE WE GO!

Put ingredients in blender with the exception of cotton candy and blend
HERE COMES THE MOST IMPORTANT PART – THE CANDY FLOSS!!!! Place a ball of candy floss into a martini glassPour mixture over the green candy floss for a stunningly beautiful and even better tasting presentation. (The makes one drink)

WHAT NOW? Sip and enjoy!

VERDICT – The slight addition of the sweetness of the candy floss really does work. It offers a wonderful balance between sweet and tart.
